An independent judge is one who examines impartially the evidence of the case file and weighs with absolute fairness the ‘for and against’ evidence/arguments of the parties before issuing with clear conscience his/her decision, without succumbing to any pressure, and while always complying with the rules of deontology.

My Biography

2003

I completed my LLM in Criminal Justice at the University of Nottingham.

2004

Serving as a junior legal advisor to the International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia in the Milošević Case.

2005

Member of an academic research team conducting a critical qualitative and quantitative research on Greek detention centers in honour of the Emeritus Professor of Criminology Stergios Alexiadis (2005-2009). The results of the research were widely publicised and demonstrated the serious shortcomings / flaws of the Greek detention system.

2013

I became Principal Legal Counsel and was formally appointed ‘Counsel before the Supreme Court of Greece’.

2015

I completed my PhD on the Jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court and became the first Greek law practitioner admitted to the prestigious ICC List of Counsel.

2016

I completed a PhD on the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court and was the first lawyer practicing law in Greece who was admitted to the prestigious ICC List of Counsel.

2017

I was selected to join the Roster of Experts of the International Nuremberg Principles Academy in 2017 and shortly afterwards the OSCE Consultancy Roster of Legal Experts. I also became a member of the International Law Association and the European Society of International Law.

2018

I was honoured to be elected as an Alternate Member of the ICC Disciplinary Board for a four-year term (2018-2022) and to have tried an increasing number of disciplinary cases in this capacity.

2019

I was elected as Joint Vice President for Victims and Chairman of the Professional Standards Advisory Committee of the International Criminal Court Bar Association (ICCBA), the only Bar Association formally recognised by the Assembly of States Parties.

2020

My expertise as well as my dedication to the Court are captured in my recent textbook under the title: The Jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (Springer) ISBN 978-3-030-21525-5.
